Mars in the 4th House – The Fire of Revenge
It is said that those with Mars in the 4th house often experience strong feelings of jealousy, envy, and resentment. However, certain other planetary positions can change this. But what is the true fire of revenge? Let's understand through a short story.
Once there was a man who had Mars in the 4th house. He was very poor. People with Mars in the 4th house can also have a determined nature. What they think, they do. One day, he took an oath to please God through rigorous penance.
He meditated for many years, and one day, God was pleased with his devotion. God asked, "Tell me, what do you want?"
The man replied, "Grant me a hundred boons, so that I may ask for any wish at any time."
God said, "Alright, but remember one thing: whatever you ask for, your neighbor will receive double."
At that moment, the man ignored this condition. He was thrilled to have received a hundred boons. Upon returning home, he made his first wish, "Let my house become beautiful and two stories high." Instantly, his house became grand and tall.
Then he said, "Let two large cars stand outside my house." Immediately, two cars appeared outside. He continued to wish for more—beautiful maids, diamonds, and whatever came to his mind.
He kept asking, and everything was granted. When there were no more desires left, he thought he would step outside and admire his beautiful house. Deep within, he felt proud that he had the most splendid house in the village. But as soon as he stepped outside, he was shocked.
His neighbor's house was four stories high, four cars were parked outside, and beautiful maids adorned with diamonds were working there. Seeing this, he burned with envy and could no longer appreciate his own house. Saddened, he returned home and sat down with a dull expression.
He realized that it was the result of the boon—that whatever he asked for, his neighbor would get double. The whole day, he couldn’t enjoy anything. Night fell, his bed was velvet, but he couldn't sleep.
He stayed awake all night and said, "Let my house collapse, my cars break down, my diamonds turn into glass, and my maids leave me." He laughed out loud and finally slept peacefully.
The next morning, he woke up to find his palace turned into ruins. The cars were wrecked, and broken glass was scattered everywhere. The place was filthy. He thought, "My neighbor must be in a worse condition than me."
Laughing to himself, he went over to his neighbor’s house. When he reached there, he saw a simple hut, and the neighbor was sitting on a cot, smiling. He asked, "What happened to you?" The neighbor said, "I didn’t desire anything. When I woke up this morning, God took back everything He had given. I’m happy with this simplicity. The peace I find in this hut, I never had in the palace."
Hearing this, the man returned to his ruins, feeling even more sorrowful. That night too, he couldn’t sleep. His neighbor’s words haunted him—that he was happy even in the hut.
The man then said, "Let one of my legs break." Suddenly, a voice asked, "Are you sure about what you're wishing for?" He replied, "Yes." His leg broke. Then he said, "Let one of my hands break." Then he said, "Let me lose one eye." He was secretly delighted, thinking, "In three or four days, I will see if my neighbor is still happy."
Four or five days later, he went to his neighbor's house. He found the neighbor still sitting on the cot, content. But now, the neighbor had no hands or legs, and he was blind. Seeing this, the man smiled to himself.
He asked the neighbor, "How are you?" The neighbor said, "I’m still happy. I didn’t have any children, but now I have a son. When this misfortune happened, a boy started taking care of me. He and his wife feed me with their hands. I call them, and they come running. I’ve transferred all my land and house to the boy’s name. He takes care of my land. Wait a moment, I’ll call him so you can meet him."
Hearing this, the man became even angrier and stormed back to his home.
Again, he couldn’t sleep the whole night. He kept wondering why his neighbor was still happy despite all the misfortunes. He asked for another boon. Suddenly, a voice said, "Wait, think carefully before asking. This is your last wish." He replied, "Okay. I want to be afflicted with a long and incurable illness, but I don't want to die quickly."
The next morning, he fell bedridden. He became so weak that he couldn’t even get up. After 20-30 days, he gathered some strength and went to his neighbor’s house. There, he saw a young boy. He thought, "This must be the boy who took care of the neighbor."
He asked, "Where is the blind old man who lived here?" Hearing this, tears welled up in the boy’s eyes. Seeing this, the man secretly smiled and thought, "Something bad must have happened." The boy said, "He was a divine soul. Thirty days ago, he had a heart attack and passed away. But before he died, he transferred all his land and house to me. That night, I had a dream that he would return to us in this house as my son. The next morning, my wife, who was pregnant, gave birth to a son."
"I’ll introduce you to him now."
The boy called his wife and child. The child’s face was filled with happiness, and he smiled as if saying, "I am very happy."
Hearing this, the man returned to his home, feeling defeated once again.
Friends, this is not the end of the story but the beginning of the lesson that "Do good, and good will come to you." When we do good for others, God does good for us. But when we wish harm upon others, a pit is being dug for ourselves. Before doing something harmful, think about what could happen to you. Instead of burning with envy at someone else's happiness, learn to share in their joy. Jealousy only harms yourself, not others.
This story was told to me by my father, Sudarshan Kumar Sharma, but I have written it with a few modifications. I hope you liked it. If you did, please like and share it.
